I wish to place on record my satisfaction with the work that Helpworks have done for me in the restructuring and renovation
of my apartment in Cortona. This was a straggling collection of rooms in poor condition and badly
designed, with ugly floors, sparse electrical wiring exposed on the walls, battered doors and windows,
and flaking, inferior plaster.
With the expert help of geometra Giancarlo Fedi and builder Mario Maggi this has now been turned into an
attractive dwelling, making the most of original features like the vast old fireplace, ancient
wooden beams, and unique greenhouse. We collaborated on the design, breaking down a wall to turn two rooms into
a large, spacious one with a beautiful arch built by Mario, who is an artist in masonry and even found me an
ancient keystone. We managed to get two attractive bathrooms out of a long, wasteful corridor.
Giancarlo Fedi is a young man with charm and good taste, who came up with some ideas I was happy to adopt. Where
we did have different opinions (he won some, I won some) everything was sorted out amicably. He also kept a
strict eye on costs, and the work came in only minimally over the estimate.
They have a good team to work with, and what could have been rather a nightmare turned out to be mostly fun.
I wish them the success they deserve.

Vorrei poter esprimere la mia grande soddisfazione per il lavoro svolto dalla HelpWorksItalia nel seguire la ristrutturazione del mio appartamento di Cortona. L'appartamento era un insieme irregolare di stanze in cattive condizione e mal posizionate. Aveva brutti pavimenti, un sistema elettrico vecchio, infissi malandati e l'intonaco completamente da rifare.Con l'aiuto esperto del geometra Giancarlo Fedi e del muratore Mario Maggi e' ora diventata una bellissima abitazione. Sono riuscitiaesaltare le caratteristiche insite della casa, come i travi in legno, il grande camino e la serra.Abbiamo collaborato alla progettazione, buttando giu' un muro per trasformare due stanze in un ambiente piu' spazioso che con l'aggiunta di un arco costruito da Mario e' stato impreziosito da una vecchia chiave di volta da lui trovata. Abbiamo inoltre ricavato due bagni molto graziosi da un corridoio privo di utilita'.
Giancarlo Fedi e' un giovane uomo con molto buon gusto, che mi ha consigliato sempre bene. Anche quando abbiamo avuto delle opinioni diverse rispetto alla ristrutturazione tutto si e' risolto in maniera molto amichevole. E' stato sempre molto attento ai costi e il lavoro ha superato di poco i preventivi. Hanno una buona squadra e quello che poteva essere un incubo e' stato addirittura divertente.
Auguro loro il successo che si meritano.

We have known Mario Maggi for many years and he has done a number of smaller jobs for us in the past, but he has recently completely renovated our large stone-built farmhouse and annexe in the hills outside Cortona. This was a big and challenging job and many things made us very grateful to have given him the contract, but particularly: 1) his great technical experience of this type of house and the challenges such buildings represent; 2) his excellent taste and ability to empathise with his client's requirements whilst steering them away from aesthetic mistakes (he was particularly helpful in the selection of materials, but also in problem solving: "Don't worry, I'll sort something out" is his catch phrase); 3) his excellent English which ensured that there were minimal misunderstandings and surprises. Mario has a good team and works well with a number of trusted local tradesmen.
We started with a builder and ended up with a friend - which is quite something when you consider the stresses and strains of a big project with heavy costs (and a falling pound!).
Conosciamo Mario da molto tempo e durante questi anni ci ha fatto dei piccoli lavori, ma recentenente ci ha completamente ristrutturato la nostra casa in pietra con annesso nelle colline fuori Cortona. Questo era un lavoro grande ed impegnativo e molte cose ci hanno fatto essere contenti di aver fatto con lui il contratto, in particolare: 1) la sua grande esperienza tecnica su questo tipo di case e la sfida che queste costruzioni rappresentano; 2) il suo gusto e la sua straordinaria abilita' a non far fare ai suoi clienti errori di tipo estetico ( ci e' stato di grande aiuto nella scelta dei materiali, ma ance nella risoluzione dei problemi: "Non vi preoccupate, mi verra' in mente una soluzione" e' la sua tipica frase; 3) il suo ottimo inglese ha fatto si che non ci fossero sorprese e fraintendimenti; Mario lavora con un buon team di persone fidate e capaci.
Abbiamo cominciato con un muratore e abbiamo finito co un amico e direi che non e' poco considerando lo stress che la ristrutturazione di una casa comporta

Mario and his team did the restoration of our house from start to finish. We were extremely pleased with the result which was in keeping with the Tuscan environment. He did an amazing job on some new walls down by the pool - they look as though they have been there for hundreds of years - just what we wanted.
Mario e la sua squadra hanno restaurato la nostra casa dall'inizio alla fine. Siamo stati estremamente contenti del risultato, cioè quello di attenersi all'ambiente toscano. Ha compiuto un lavoro straordinario su alcuni muretti nuovi vicino alla piscina, sembra che siano stati lì da centinaia di anni, proprio ciò che desideravamo.

Has completed several projects on our house near Cortona including a new swimming pool, new bathroom and terrace / pergola. We have been extremely pleased with the results of all of these developments.
Mario Maggi ha eseguito vari progetti sulla nostra casa vicino Cortona, compresa una nuova piscina, un nuovo bagno e terrazza/pergolato. Siamo molto contenti dei risultati di tutte queste aggiunte.
